Latest Updates from Our Project:

Last 24 hours! And a new track from Manami Matsumae!
about 4 years ago – Thu, Feb 27, 2020 at 12:33:34 AM

Hey everyone, we're now in to the final 24 hours of the campaign and the project funding currently stands at an amazing 163%! Thanks to all of you for getting us over the line and ensuring that we're able to add some new features to Battle Axe. :) We've all been working hard on various aspects of the game, but the most exciting thing we have for you is a great new track from Manami Matsumae for the "mines" area. Mike kindly made a quick video so that you can have a listen to it in situ:

This is of course a work-in-progress and we still have more enemies / traps to design for this area, but it's always great to hear new work from Matsumae-san! Well this was just a quick update but we'll soon have a BackerKit page up and running, and you will all receive a survey in a little while to confirm all your details and add-ons from BackerKit. Thanks again everyone, and we'll talk to you soon!

Big announcement! And another stretch goal...
about 4 years ago – Mon, Feb 24, 2020 at 08:40:21 AM

Hello everyone, I hope you are well! Today I have some exciting news, which is that we are partnering with Numskull Games to bring Battle Axe to a wider audience! They'll be great in helping us with the manufacturing and distribution of the physical Switch and PS4 versions, as well as the merchandise. I hope you're all as excited about this partnership as we are - this will allow us to focus on making Battle Axe as amazing as it can possibly be without having to concern ourselves with the game's publishing.

Whilst I'm here, I thought now would be a good time to propose our second stretch goal since we're nearing our first, so here it is:

I’m sure you can see what we did there. ;) Well there's just a week of the campaign left to go now, so please do let anyone know who might be interested, and thanks for the amazing support so far!

Cheers,

Henk and team

Battle Axe is 100% funded!
about 4 years ago – Sat, Feb 22, 2020 at 07:06:35 AM

Well that was somewhat unexpected! We thought it might be another few days before we were fully funded, but thanks to a bit of a surge we reached our goal a little earlier than we anticipated! A massive thank you to everyone who has supported the Battle Axe campaign in any form, whether that’s been by pledging or sharing, and it now means that we can go full-steam ahead with the game’s development!

Many of you have been asking us if we would now be announcing stretch-goals since the project is fully-funded, and the answer is “YES”! We have a few mind, but we thought we would just go with one to start with and set the amount for the second:

Myself and Mike have been particularly busy over the past few weeks answering questions about the game and engaging with people on social media, but I managed to find some time to start on this campfire scene which will be shown at the end of the first area:

I’ll eventually have the heroes in more relaxed poses surrounding the fire, but I thought you would all like to see how it’s progressing anyway! Matsumae-man has also started work on the track for the mines area, so we’ll make a new video when that’s ready so that you can see a bit more of the mines area accompanied by her track.

Oh yes, we thought we’d also quickly mention “Bushiden”, which is a fantastic looking futuristic, ninja action platformer being developed by Pixel Arc Studios. It was successfully Kickstarted back in 2018 and looks to be coming along nicely! The game combines melee combat with exploration elements spanning 8 separate, non-linear levels - here’s a slice of the action:

Check it out here if you like the looks of it:

Finally, it was really great to have Pat Contri and Ian Ferguson discussing the Battle Axe Kickstarter on their #CUPodcast, which some of you might also enjoy:

That’s about it for this update - thanks again everyone, and we’ll be back with another update soon!

Many thanks,

Over 50% funded - news about add-ons!
about 4 years ago – Thu, Feb 20, 2020 at 03:27:12 AM

Hey everyone, I thought today would be a good opportunity to give you all a quick update on the project’s progress - as you may have seen, we are now over 50% funded in just a few days, which is amazing, so thank you all for pledging and sharing! Many of you have been asking about adding to your pledge to get additional copies of the game and also extra villagers, so we’ve now made that possible and here are the details:

We’ll keep you posted when more add-ons become available and please do get in touch if you have any questions.

Regarding the game’s development, I am currently working on the game’s inter-level campfire sequence and should have something for you all to check out soon, but in the meantime here is a video of me drawing a bridge for the “mines” area, in case you wanted to see how I construct my pixels! Oh yes, the music in this video is actually the track for the first area, written by Manami Matsumae:
